Transform Ageing: Driving business solutions for ageing communities

UnLtd and the Design Council were working together on the Transform Ageing programme, an initiative that supported social enterprises developing solutions for ageing communities in the South West of England.

While the programme had already funded and supported several organisations, awareness of the work remained limited. Many potential applicants, partners and supporters were unaware of the innovation emerging through the programme.

UnLtd needed a way to clearly demonstrate the impact of Transform Ageing and inspire more social enterprises to apply for support.

The organisation asked We Do Stories to help identify and capture the stories that could bring the programme to life for a wider audience.

Challenge

Approach

We began by working with UnLtd to identify the social enterprises whose work best demonstrated the impact of the Transform Ageing programme.
Travelling across Devon, we interviewed founders, teams and the people benefiting from their work. These conversations helped uncover the stories that showed how social innovation was improving everyday life for older communities.

From this insight, we developed a set of campaign stories that demonstrated the tangible outcomes of UnLtd’s support.

Our team produced content across video, photography and written case studies. Each story focused on the people behind the organisations and the real change their work was creating.

The content was designed for use across multiple communications channels including media outreach, social platforms, stakeholder communications and programme promotion.

By focusing on lived experience and measurable impact, the campaign helped audiences understand both the purpose and potential of the Transform Ageing initiative.

Results

The campaign provided UnLtd and the Design Council with a library of authentic stories that strengthened how the organisations could communicate the impact of Transform Ageing.
The content continued to be used across digital platforms, stakeholder communications and programme promotion for more than four years.

Greater visibility helped attract new applications from social enterprises interested in developing solutions for people in later life in the South West, enabling the programme to reach 89,500 people in later life, generating £3.74 million in income, and creating 197 jobs in the South West.

By bringing the work of these organisations to life, the campaign helped strengthen awareness of Transform Ageing and supported UnLtd’s wider mission to grow social enterprise across the UK.
